The Rezidor Hotel Group has opened its first hotel in South Africa, the Port Elizabeth Hilton Hotel in Port Elizabeth, Cape Town. Rezidsor expands its portfolio of luxury hotels and resorts in the United States to include South Africa and Africa.

HG, which opened a new intercontinental hotel in Qatar in 2010, has signed a contract with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the ruler of Qatar, to develop Doha West Bay intercontinental airport in Qatar. Hilton Hotels and Resorts is aiming to expand its presence in South Africa in the next few years, and plans to open hotels such as the Port Elizabeth Doubletree by Hilton and the Radisson Hotel Sandton in Johannesburg. The 192-room Park Inn Sandston, which will open in 2010, will be complemented by the Radisson Hotel in Sandton, which is scheduled to open in late 2008.
