Description

The ultimate way to see Port Elizabeth! Discover why Nelson Mandela chose to have his name bestowed upon this city!
An all inclusive way to experience one of the oldest cities in South Africa. This tour includes a 2 and a half hour walking tour through the historic city center, a visit to 2 local breweries including tasting and a cultural township experience in one of the oldest townships in South Africa.

The tour starts from the Campanile Memorial - an important landmark situated at the entrance to the railway station. The next stop is route 67 - an exciting trail that combines the best elements – both historical and modern-day – of the people and culture of the Eastern Cape. It also pays tribute to Madiba’s 67 years of service to South Africans.

The tour also includes a visit to the Donkin Reserve at Belmont Terrace and the old lighthouse. Here you will find yourself surrounded by a mix of exquisite old Victorian churches; newly renovated, terraced cottages on Donkin Street; and a lighthouse that once guided ships into Algoa Bay.

Be sure to get a picture next to a large metal cut-out of Nelson Mandela, fist raised in triumph, leading a line of South Africans representing the voters who cast their ballots in the country's first democratic elections on 27 April 1994.

After visiting the oldest surviving permanent British structure at Fort Frederick, the next stop is at one of Port Elizabeth's most exciting craft breweries to sample some very unique local beers. Before moving on to the trendy suburb of Richmond Hill the next pit stop is at St Georges Park, the oldest cricket ground in South Africa.

The final stop is Walmer Township, one of the oldest townships in the country. Immerse yourself in this cultural experience before enjoying a meal with a local family.
